Save time when you mark metal. In one stroke, a series of letters and numbers may be stamped on a product or name plate with uniform legibility.

Steel Type Features

Machined and ground per specification to fit any holder.
Engraved with one or more letters, figures, logos or special designs.
Can be used for marking metal as well as date coding paper products for the packaging industry.
When ordering custom type please send sample piece, if available, to insure exact duplication of blank size and engraved character.
Combine letter and/or figure series for marking serial numbers, dates, or part numbers in one easy stroke with perfect alignment.
Steel type is made from the highest grades of tool steel available, and are hardened to provide maximum tool life.

Type Holders – The simple solution for multiple character marking

Hand Model Type Holder is furnished with spring pin to hold the notched type. An Allen wrench and screw are included to lock the type together.

Designed for hand or machine marking of flat or irregularly shaped surfaces.
Made for single or multiple line marking.
Accurately machined and heat treated to insure a uniform depth of impression.
Illinois Engraving offers stock sizes of steel type, type holders, and complete type holder kits.

Holder number along with capacity of holder and type size. Illinois Engraving notched steel type 1″ long must be used with the holder. No other steel stamps fit.
Size and quantity of each character of Illinois Engraving notched steel type required.
Blank spacers for spaces between characters or for filling the unused capacity of the holder. The holder will not stamp unless it is filled to capacity with the steel type or blank spacers.
Don’t forget to order extra characters (letters and/or numbers) that may be required for a gang stamp.
